Y and W lashes are not classic fans, even though they also come premade. A 2D-5D fan is a spread of individual hairs joined at a common base. Y and W lashes are premade shapes with split tips: Y ends in two tips, and W in three. They are applied like a classic lash, one per natural hair, but give a fuller, more textured finish.
Below we explain the difference, when to choose Y and when W, and which curls, thicknesses and lengths are available in our catalog.
What Y, YY and W lashes are
The name comes from the shape of the lash when viewed from the front.
- Y lashes. Two hairs with a common base that split at the top like the letter Y. We carry them as Y-Shape Lashes 2D for lighter volume, Y-shaped 6D lashes and colored Y lashes (brown, blue, green, purple, pink).
- YY lashes. This is what the industry calls Y-shaped lashes made in two layers, which is why they look denser from the front. In the catalog you will find them as NAGARAKU YY lashes, YY flying and ONYX LASHES with a YY shape.
- W lashes. According to the NAGARAKU description, W is an upgrade of Y: a third “pillar” is added for greater fullness. They come in 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D and 8D, plus Spike and flying versions.
Why they are not classic fans
All three types are applied one per natural hair. The difference is in the shape and the effect:
| 2D-5D fans | Y and YY lashes | W lashes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What they look like | a fan of hairs with a common base | two tips, Y shape | three tips, W shape |
| How they are applied | one fan on one natural hair | one lash on one natural hair | one lash on one natural hair |
| Effect | volume depending on the number of hairs | a light, textured finish | a fuller effect than Y |
So the answer to the question in the title is “yes and no”: they are premade like fans, but they are not a fan and their effect is different. You will find classic premade fans in the category lash clusters.
When to choose Y and when W
- Y 2D is for lighter volume, close to classic but with more texture.
- W 3D-8D is for a client who wants a denser and darker lash line. The higher the number, the more hairs in the shape.
- Colored Y lashes are for accents, for example a few blue or pink ones in the outer corner.
If you are just making your first set with these shapes, start with W-shaped lashes 3D NAGARAKU: they have the widest range of curls (C, D and DD).

How to work with Y and W lashes
The technique is the same as for classic. You isolate one natural hair, dip the base in adhesive and place the lash on it. No fan is made, so the procedure is faster than handmade volume.
You work with standard eyelash extension adhesive. All the adhesives we carry are in the category lash adhesive.
Frequently asked questions
Are Y and W lashes premade fans?
Yes and no. They come premade like fans, but they are not a fan; they are a shape with two (Y) or three (W) tips. They are applied like a classic lash.
How many Y or W lashes go on one natural hair?
One, just like with classic.
Which thickness should I choose?
Most of our models are 0,07 mm. NAGARAKU YY lashes also come in 0,05 mm.
What is the difference between Y and YY?
YY is the trade name for two-layer Y-shaped lashes. From the front, they look denser than the single Y shape.
